Ireland is still the second-biggest beer-drinking market in the world, after the Czech Republic. Dublin’s famous O’Connell Bridge is the only traffic bridge in Europe that is wider than it is long. When it was originally built, it was made of rope and could only carry one man and a donkey at a time. It was replaced by a wooden bridge in 1801 and the current concrete bridge was built in 1863. Guinness is brewed in nearly 50 countries using a top-secret component transported from Dublin where it is kept under lock and key. |
